Remarks:

King of Scots, April 23, 1124-1153; 3rd Earl of Huntingdon. He was trained in England and was earl of Northumberland. While his brother Alexander ruled Scotland north of the Forth and Clyde, David ruled with the title of earl in Lothian and Cumbria. He succeeded to the crown at AlexanderÕs death on April 23, 1124. He became earl of Huntingdon in consequence of his marriage. He founded an abbey at Selkirk in 1113, afterwards removed to Kelso, and another abbey at Jedworth in 1118. He retained his English earldom, and on account of it he joined in 1127 in the baronsÕ recognition of the right of the Empress Maud to succeed her father on the throne of England. When Stephen seized the crown, David took arms against him, but peace was made in 1136, Davide resigning the earldom to his younger son, Henry, who did homag to Stephen. War breaking out again, David was defeated at the battle of the Standard on August 22, 1138.
