Remarks:

9th Earl of Huntingdon. He was the younger brother of Kings Malcolm and William the Lion of Scotland. He was knighted by Henry7 II on May 31, 1170. William gave him the district of Garioch, Aberdeenshire, in 1174. His brother sent him to Leicester in the same year to aid the knights of the earl of Leicester. He was a hostage for Scotland upon the confirmation of the Convention of Falaise. He carried one of the three swrds at the corontion of Richard I on September 3, 1189. In about 1191 he founded the Abbey of Lindores, Fifeshire. He and his brother-in-law, the earl of Chester, besieged the castle of Nottingham in 1194, when it was held by the adherents of John, and in the same year he attended Richard in his expedition to Normandy. He did homage to his nephew, Alesander, son of King William, in 1205. His English honors were confirmed to him on May 23, 1205, and March 5, 1215, but he was deprived in 1215 or 1216. He was restored on March 13, 1218.
