Remarks:
3rd Earl of Shrewsbury; seigneur of Belleme, Domfront, and Alencon. In 1070 he served in the ConquerorÕs invasion of Maine and was knighted by the King at the siege of Fresnay-le-Vicomte. About 1077 he joined the party of Robert Curthose, and he later opposed and rebelled against Henry I. He had a reputation for extreme cruelty and sadism, and frequenty tortured prisoners to death. On November 4, 1112, he was imprisoned by Henry I, first in the castle of Cherbourg, and then in Wareham Castle. He presumably remained imprisoned until his death.
