Clement Bridge was born at 23 Great Cheltham street, West Broughton.

In 1901 aged 19 he lived at Rydal Mount (4 houses away from Highfield on Glebelands road where his future wife was living) with his parents and sisters. He was a Shippers Clerk.

In 1911, aged 29, he was living at Rydal Mount, with his mother and sisters. He was a cotton manufacturer. His father had died.

He moved to Meadehurst (next to Highfield but other way from Rydal Mount) after marriage with Mary Ogden in 1911 which James Ogden bought for them. Note Meadehurst was standing in 1901.

He was a director of JB & Co (Jospeh Bridge & Company), Cotton manufacturers, responsible for the accounting side of the firm.
Joseph Bridge and Co. was a major player in exporting textiles to West Africa from the 1930s to the 1950s.
In 1940, the Directors were Hubert W. Bridge, William Taylor-Jones, and Arthur O. Bridge. The mill had 600 looms and the firm had a capital of £70,000 (somewhere between £13million and £18million in today's money).
There are three large pattern books in the ABC (A. Brunnschweiler and Co) Archive, two of which are prints from Rhodes Print Works for Joseph Bridge, and the other probably represents prints done at Newton Bank. (Email correspondence from textile historian Dr Philip Sykas of Manchester School of Art in Dec 2015).
