Gentleman of the Chamber and Master of the Buckhounds 1516; King's Standard Bearer 1531; Constable of Leeds Castle 1534; convicted of high treason for promoting the interests of his cousin Cardinal Reginald Pole.

He was charged with "devising to maintain, promote, and advance one Reginald Pole, late Dean of Exeter, enemy of the King, beyond the sea, and to deprive the King". (Reginald Pole was a Catholic exile and a second cousin once removed of Nevill who wrote a treatise condemning Henry VIII and his divorce of Katherine of Aragon. Reginald Pole was later to become Archbishop of Canterbury under Mary I).

The people beheaded for maintaining treasonable connections with Cardinal Reginald Pole, who had left the country were Edward Neville, Henry Courtenay, Marquis of Exeter and Henry Pole, Baron Montague (Reginald's brother), (beheaded in 1538), Nicholas Carew, Adrian Fortescue and Thomas Dingley in 1539, and Reginald Pole's mother, Margaret Pole, the Countess of Salisbury, was executed barbarously in 1541. Reginald's other brother, Geffrey, and Courtenay's wife, Gertrude, originally condemned with the others, were later released.
