Remarks:
Aged about twenty-one, Catherine married the fourteen years old Enrique III, King of Castile and Leon, and they had two daughters and a son. However her husband, aged only twenty-seven, died in 1406, appointing her co-regent with his brother Ferdinand. In 1412 Ferdinand was elected King of Aragon. On his death in 1416 she became sole regent. Though still a young woman she had become exceedingly stout through over-indulgence and she succumbed to a paralytic stroke on 2 June 1418, leaving her son Juan II at the age of thirteen to the mercy of a band of self-serving courtiers.
