4th December 1895. 4th Battalion, the Sherwood Foresters (Derbyshire Regiment), Cecil Sherman Platt, Gent., to be Second Lieutenant

He entered the 5th Dragoon Guards from the Militia in 1898 and accompanied his Regiment to South Africa from India in September 1899. He was one of two 5th Dragoon Guards Officer fatalities during the War and is commemorated on the memorial in School Hall at Eton College.

2nd Lieutenant Cecil Sherman Platt died of enteric fever in Ladysmith on 5.1.1900. Buried at Intombi Camp.

PLATT Cecil Sherman 2nd-lieutenant in H.M. 5th Dragoon-guards died 5 January at Ladysmith Natal Administration London 18 August to Frederick Platt esquire Effects £306 0s 4d.

Died in active service in the Boer War.
