Remarks:
Crowned King of the Salian Franks, reigning 24 years until his death in 481. The Salian Franks, in a treaty with the Roman Empire, had settled in Belgica Secunda, between the Meuse and Somme rivers, making Tournai their capital. Childeric helped the Roman commander, Aegidius, to repel the Visigoth invaders near Orleans in 463 and attacked the Visigoths again in 469. He also cleared the Anglo-Saxon pirates from the area southwest of Orleans around Angers. Took Cologne in 460. Childeric's tomb at Tournai was discovered in 1653.
