John SULIS (Daniel) (5 GG Father) John was born in 1763 in the State of New York. In the 1891 census record for his son William, he stated that his father was born "Long Island, N.Y.". He fled with his father to Smith's Cove in 1774 as a Loyalist. John married 10 Oct 1790 in Smith's Cove, Abigail SMITH, born 13 Aug 1768 in Ridgefield, Conn., the daughter of Joseph and Abigail (JONES) SMITH. John Sulis Esq., died 22 Oct 1856 at the age of 93 years3 and his wife Abigail died 22 May 1857 aged 85 years3. Both are buried in Smith's Cove. John SULIS' will was signed 28 May 1822, filed 28 Oct 1855 and probated 27 Oct 1856. The will listed all ten of his children (DC-12). From the 30 May 1857 NBC: "died Hillsburg, 22 May, Abigail widow of John Sulis, aged 88, left 10 children, 50 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren" (NB-15). John was listed in the 1827 census for Hillsburg as being a farmer with 42 acres of land, two boys and two girls. He was also listed as a member of the Church of England. Ridlon (1926); (3) SU-7; Last Will and Testament of John SULIS In the name of God, Amen, I John Sulis of Clements in the County of Annapolis and Province of Nova Scotia, yeoman, considering the uncertainly of this mortal life and being of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be to God, for the same do this twenty-eighth day of February in the year of our blessed Saviour one thousand eight hundred and twenty-two, do make and publish this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommended my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors, and as touching such worldly estate where with it hath please God to help me in this life I order and direct That all my lawful debts and funeral charges expensed by my executors herein named out of my personal estate. Next I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Abigail Sulis all my estate as well seal as personal now lying and being in the Township of Clements and County of Annapolis by her my said wife freely to posses and enjoy by her so long as she shall remain my widow and I order my Executor do see that she the said Abigail Sulis do not make waste therein during the term of time she lives thereon and if she should marry again, I then order that my estate herein after named do allow my wife Abigail SULIS one third interest of all the assets or interest arising from my estate both real and personal during her natural life. I order if any of my younger children that do not have their education at my death that my wife have them educated and pay the expenses out of the personal estate. I also give and bequeath to my dear son Daniel Sulis the sum of five shillings to be paid to him six months after my wife's death that my Executors do sell all my estate real and personal and the proceeds I give and bequeath in manner following that is to say I order that my Executors do divide the whole into eight equal shares one share to give to my dear son John B. Sulis, one to my dear son Jeremiah Sulis, one share to my dear son Joseph Sulis, one share to my dear son Charles Sulis, one share to my dear son William Sulis, one share to my dear son Frederick Sulis, and one share to be equally divided between my two daughters Deborah Sulis and Sarah Sulis the several shares to be paid to them as they arrive at the age of twenty-one and if any of my children should died before they come to the age of twenty-one years then I order that my Executors, do divide his or her share equally among the rest according to the intent and meaning of this my will I also give and bequeath all my wearing apparel to be equally divided among my eight sons and lastly I do appoint my dear sons Daniel Sulis, John B. Sulis and Jeremiah Sulis, Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former and other wills by me made, in witness where of I the said, John Sulis (signed)
