Following note from Tony Rippon in 2009:
A note by my father to a previous family tree says: “Mythical illegitimate or morganatic connection with a Duke”. In my experience this Duke was identified as the Duke of Rutland and said to have been the father of a child carried by Miss Pridmore at the time of her marriage to Allen Rippin. My father is said to have closely resembled a Duke of Rutland though I do not know which one. Father did not seem to like the idea much, Mother rather did!
