Remarks:
Count of Frisia or West Friesland. He is also referred to as Count of 'Holland.' He died in battle September 18, 993. He was the son of Dirk II and Hildegard of Flanders. His year of birth is unknown and it is not certain whether the place of his birth was Ghent, although he is sometimes referred to as Arnulf or Arnold of Ghent. He has been mentioned in records from October 26, 970, onwards. He extended his territories southwards but died in battle against the Friesians.
