Accrington Men of Mark (1924): "Lang Bridge, died Jan 14 1889, aged 52. 'Hail-fellow well met,' Mr Lang Bridge was a popular man in Accrington. A member of a very old
Accrington family, he was founder of the works in Paradise-street (later Spring Hill), perpetuating his name , was a successful man of business, and a good sport. In his early
days he worked in a cotton mill, and subsequently was an overlooker at Park Mill, at which his father, Jacob Bridge, was cashier. Still later he entered the ironmongery trade,
and when he began the business of tin-plate worker in the cellar of his shop he had a solitary workman. A devoted angler, he was 'full of life' and humour, and was 'excellent
company.' His son, Mr Jacob Bridge ('Jake'), who died at the age of 37, left his wealth to be divided between the Blackburn Orphanage, the Accrington Technical School and the
Swedenborgian Church."
