Since both Nicholas in "Annals and Antiquities, etc.," and Burke's "Commoners" state that Herbert the Chamberlain was great-grandson of Herbert Comte de Vermandois, and the name Peter/Piers repeats in the FitzHerbert lineage it would seem that the likelylineage of Herbert the Chamberlain would have been through the third son, Peter, of Otho de Vermandois.
