Lord of Annandale. He succeeded his father in 1245 and his mother in 1251-1252. He and his son swore fealty to the King and Prince Edward on April 19, 1267. He was a supporter of Henry III. He fought at the battle of Lewes on May 14, 1264, and was captured by de MontfortÕs forces. His son Robert ransomed him. He was a competitor for the Scottish crown and he agreed on June 5, 1291, to be bound by the decision of the King as his overlord, but Edward decided against him.
