Count of Eu. He was a natural son of Richard I the Fearless, Duke of Normandy, the great-grandfather of William the Conqueror. The duke granted him Brionne, but did not make him a count. His comital title derives from the grant of the county of Eu to him after 996 by his half-brother, duke Richard II.
