He became King on the death of his brother, Malcolm III Ceannmor, on November 13, 1093, but he was deposed by his nephew, MalcomÕs son by his first wife, Duncan, in May, 1094. Duncan reigned only six months before being slain at Mondynes on November 12, 1094. Donald ÒBaneÓ then resumed the throne, in conjunction with another of Malcolm IIIÕs sons by Margaret ÒAthelingÓ of England, Edmund.In 1097, through the agency of Edward ÒAthelingÓ of England, EdmundÕs uncle, Donald ÒBaneÓ was defeated and expelled from Scotland, Edmund was imprisoned, and the Scottish throne was assumed by another of MalcolmÕs sons, Edgar. Edgar was succeeded in turn by his brother, Alexander, and then by the youngest brother, David.
