He was the son of Reverend Robert Day Denny and Sarah Grant.
He married Jane Kirton, daughter of Thomas Kirton, in 1872.
He died on 24 November 1921 at age 83, without issue.

Sir Robert Arthur Denny, 5th Bt. gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 22nd Regiment.

He succeeded to the title of 5th Baronet Denny, of Castle Moyle, co. Kerry [I., 1782] on 13 June 1889.
