He was a Lance Corporal in the Northumberland Fusiliers, 20th (Tyneside Scottish) Bn. Service No: 20/1646
He was killed in the first day of the Battle of the Somme, along with 590 men in his battalion, during the attack on La Boiselle which started at 7.30am on the 1st July 1916 after the detonation of the Lochnagar and Y-sap mines.
He is commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 10 B 11 B and 12 B.
Son of Thomas and Agnes Dunwoodie, of Primrose Hill, Boldon Colliery; husband of Annie Dunwoodie, of Primrose Hill, Boldon Colliery, Co. Durham and father of 4 young children under the age 10 - Frances, Agnes, Annie and Angus.
