Peter (Piers) De Vermandois
The following information is copied from Jane Williams Flank, World Connect db=jwflank, rootsweb.com:
Third son of Otho de Vermandois.
Since both Nicholas in "Annals and Antiquities, etc.," and Burke's "Commoners" state that Herbert the Chamberlain was great-grandson of Herbert Comte de Vermandois, and the name Peter/Piers repeats in the FitzHerbert lineage it would seem that the likelylineage of Herbert the Chamberlain would have been through the third son, Peter, of Otho de Vermandois. In the 'Kin of Mellcene Thurman Smith" the author lists the lineage of the Fitzherbert's through the Vermandois in this fashion citing as sources the following: Burke's Dormant and Extinct Baronetcies, pp 509-11, 109, Collison's History of County Somerset, Eng., Vol. 3, pp 334/5, Phillips History of Morgan and Glamorgan, p 26, Dwnn's Visitation of Wales, Vol 2, p 158, Pedigrees of Counties of Anglesley and Carnarvon, Wales, pp 137, 185, Edmundson's Baronagium Genealogicum, Vol 3, pp 263/5.
