Son of Henry Sutherland Romer and Emily Romer, Greville House, Harrow, and 118, Hampstead P Way, Golders Green, London. b. 1890.

Only son of Emily Romer, of 118, Hampstead P Way, Golders Green, London, and the late Henry Sutherland Romer. Native of Great Malvern, Worcs. Scholar of Malvern College and Guy's Hospital.

'On leaving School he entered on a medical career at Guy's Hospital, and at the same time joined the Artists' Rifles. Shortly afterwards he accepted the offer of an opening in Ceylon, where he joined the Tea Planter's Corps. From here he was transferred to a responsible post in Java. At the outbreak of war he returned to England and received a commission in the Middlesex Regiment. He died of wounds on May 3rd.' (Malvernian, Jun 1916).

On 30th April 1916, 24th Division, were holding the line at Wulverghem, south of Ypres, when the Germans launched a gas attack. This was accompanied by heavy rifle and machine gun fire against most of 73 Brigade and 72 Brigade. The 13th Middlesex of 73 Brigade were one of the units in the line when at Wulverghem, south of Ypres, when the Germans launched a gas attack on 30th April 1916 resulting in many casualties, and Guy Romer died as a result 3 days later.
