Remarks:
He is said to be a son of William of Hainaut, who is not otherwise known. He appears to have begun the building of Montfort, described as a Òcastrum,Ó which was completed by his son Simon. He attested charters of Robert I of France in 1022, 1028, and February 4, 1031. Montfort is about midway between Paris and Chartres, styled Montfort-lÕAmaury, gave its name to this family of Montfort.
